About Us

We are passionate about working towards an inclusive society in which persons with disabilities are equal and active citizens. This was true of the small group of people who began our organisation in 1937 and it remains true for the many people who join us in our work today. We are dedicated to continue providing inclusive, equal and accessible services and support to persons with disabilities, their families and communities...

Our Work

WCAPD and registered APD Branches are committed to the holistic development and inclusion of the increasing number of persons with disabilities in especially the Western Cape, as confirmed by Census 2022: "Western Cape is the only province that experienced a slight increase in 2022 in terms of disability prevalence compared to all other provinces, from 5,3% in 2011 to 5,4% in 2022".

Our Impact

WCAPD provides a unique platform to access capacity building opportunities, encouraging them to find creative ways in which to include persons with disabilities in all aspect of society that will continuously ensure their equality and human dignity. This platform is available to registered APD branches and various community-based service providers.

Awareness Raising

Disability awareness raising is crucial for promoting inclusivity, understanding, and support for persons with disabilities and their families. It's imperative that disability awareness raising activities should be ongoing and integrated into every aspect of society to create a more inclusive and accessible South Africa. Persons with disabilities themselves are trained in public speaking and are encouraged to share their story in an effort to combat incorrect perceptions.

Our Core Values

Respect

We believe that all people are deserving of respect and dignity, and everyone is to be treated with fairness and integrity

WCAPD provides not only its registered APD branches, but also various community-based service providers with a unique platform to access capacity building opportunities, encouraging them to find creative ways in which to include persons with disabilities in all aspects of society that will continuously ensure their equality and human dignity.
